Bob Costas

Speaker: Bob Costas
NBC Sportscaster

About our 2010 Guest Speaker

Bob Costas. It’s a name synonymous with sports broadcasting. Bob has been with NBC Sports since 1979. He has covered nearly every major sport, though he is perhaps most identified with the Olympics and baseball.

He has won 20 Emmy awards—16 for outstanding sports host or play-by-play, two for writing, one for his late night interview show, “Later...with Bob Costas” on NBC, and one for feature reporting. Bob has also been named “National Sportscaster of the Year” an unprecedented eight times by his peersÑin 1985, 1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1997, and 2000.

Nowadays, Bob hosts NBC’s “Football Night in America” and recently signed a long-term deal to join the MLB Network. Bob’s love for baseball is no secret. His book, “Fair Ball, A Fan’s Case for Baseball” published in 2000, earned excellent reviews and remained on the New York Times best seller list for several weeks. Bob has been involved in the coverage of ten League Championship Series, and seven World Series for NBC, and even said the eulogy at Mickey Mantle’s funeral.

And to think, he got his start in Syracuse at WSYR-TV while attending Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Publication and Communications (Class of ’74).

Coach Boeheim is also a champion of many charitable causes. Most recently, he and wife, Juli, formed the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation - a local campaign to enrich the lives of children in need within our community and to provide support for eliminating cancer through research and advocacy.

Jim and Juli have also donated their time to Crouse Hospital’s Kienzle Family Maternity Center, the Children’s Miracle Network, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Pioneer Center for the Blind and Disabled, Lighthouse, People in Wheelchairs, Easter Seals, the Special Olympics, the Rescue Mission and the Jack Bruen Fund.
